Ghana’s Alltel Unveils KPad Range Of Tablets[PICS]

Seems like Ghanians no longer have to worry about high prices of Tablets in the region. Ghana’s Alltel Limited recently unveiled the KPad a range of Tablet devices running Google’s Android operating system as well as Microsoft’s Windows 7. The ‘K’ in ‘K-Pad’ is for Kludgeson. Kofi Kludgeson, the Executive Chairman of Alltel also unveiled the ‘Akasanoma’ PC, Internet and TV system in ranges of 22 to 55-inch screens. The KPad on the other hand will come in 7, 8, 9.7 and 10.1-inch variants.

The 7-inch KPad runs on  an 800MHz ARM CPU with 256MB of RAM and has  a Resistive touch panel on its LCD screen. Internal storage is at 4GB. The device has WiFi 802.11b/g support, a  USB port, 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera a  scroll ball and comes equipped with e-learning products and e-books.

The 8-inch variant has an  LED display and is powered by a Cortex A8 CPU with 512MB of RAM. It also runs Android and comes with  4G of internal storage. WiFi support is included. As well as GPS for navigation, a 1.3 mega pixel webcam, a USB port and a  Memory card slot. It also comes with ebooks.

The 9.7inch K-PAD tablet runs on a Freescale i.MX515 CORTEX A8 CPU and  2 GB of  internal storage. It offers  Bluetooth and  WiFi support and includes 1.3 mega pixel camera. The Tablet supports Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF and TXT files. Its media player supports most video and audio player formats. A USB port is included for charging.

The 10.1inch K-PAD also has an LED screen for display and runs Microsoft’s Windows 7., Powered by  a dual-core 1.66GHZ Intel CPU, the device has internal storage of 32GB. Connection options include WiFi 802.11b/g, Bluetooth and 3G. The 10-icnch KPad has a 3in1 memory card reader as well as a VGA port and an  HDMI port for streaming to larger screens. A LAN port is also included for terrestrial networks.

Alltel is also taking strides by training professionals in different sectors from health to education. Mr. Kludgeson says every doctor and nurse trained under the scheme will receive a KPad in order to enhance their skills in telemedicine. The KPad is produced in partnership with ZTE Corporation, China and Hughes Corporation of the US.
