RIM launches BlackBerry Tag: An NFC Social Sharing Service
At a keynote presentation at GITEX in Dubai, RIM Co-CEO, Jim Balsillie announced a new social sharing service for BlackBerrys called BlackBerry Tag. BlackBerry Tag is an NFC based platform that will help BlackBerry users connect and share content with other users.
BlackBerry Tag is available only on the new BlackBerry Bold 9900/9930 and BlackBerry Curve 9350/9360/9370 and will be rolled out in the next BlackBerry OS 7 update. BlackBerry Tag makes it easy for users of these certain BlackBerry devices to share contacts, documents, links, photos and general media content by bumping their phones together. Pretty much like Bump for iPhone and Android which has existed for some time now.
The service includes BBM integration which allows users to add each other on the service. RIM says it will make the APIs for BlackBerry Tag public, allowing developers to create apps like ‘Bump’ or incorporate it into their own applications.
