Facebook Plans To Launch Music Dashboard With Spotify, MOG Rdio

Facebook Plans To Launch Music Dashboard With Spotify, MOG & Rdio

Facebook Plans To Launch Music Dashboard With Spotify, MOG Rdio

Reports have emerged that Facebook plans to launch its music service at the end of September teaming up with Spotify, MOG and Rdio. The music platform will be announced at Facebook’s f8 developer conference on Sept. 22. The service will allow users listen to music and probably watch video from within the website itself.

Evidence of the music platform emerged this year in the code of Facebook’s video call service. According to sources, Facebook will not host or stream any media. It will instead rely on the partners to provide and stream content. This is by far different from Apple, Google and Amazon’s strategy for their music services because they host the content on their servers.

There are also reports that Facebook intends to extend the platform beyond music. It is possible that Netflix could stream movies through the site but we aren’t sure if Facebook will go beyond the music segment at f8.

However, a Facebook spokesperson told Mashable “There’s nothing new to announce,” “Many of the most popular music services around the world are integrated with Facebook and we’re constantly talking to our partners about ways to improve these integrations.”

Yeah, we remember clearly when Apple said they weren’t working on a phone. Google said it too.

What do you think about this report? Can Facebook’s music service rival Apple, Google and Amazon’s services even though Amazon and Apple already have a ready music purchasing and listening user base? Leave us a comment.
