RIM Regional Director Says Nigeria Is It’s Fastest Growing Market

RIM’s Regional Director Waldi Wepener, in an interview with BusinessDay explained the performance of RIM’s BlackBerry devices in Nigeria. Perhaps Nigeria’s 40 Million mobile phone users are the solution to RIM’s dwindling revenue and marketshare.

He says in the fiscal year of 2011, which ended in February, RIM grew by 43%. RIM now has more than 67 Million BlackBerry users worldwide and they added over 1Million new users in the first three Q2 weeks of the new fiscal year.

RIM also has plans to introduce a local office by the end of the year so they can invest in local resources. Wepener says RIM will be agressive in its marketing activities with the introduction of a field marketing unit in August.

What do you think about this? Mobile phone users the world over are beginning to switch to Androids and. Does this mean Nigerian consumers are technologically backward? Leave us a comment.
