Is this part of hype creation?. According to CNET, an Apple employee lost an iPhone prototype at a bar on July 22 at the Cava22 bar in San Francisco. In April last year, an Apple employee also lost an iPhone 4 before its release and it ended up getting sold to Gizomodo for $5000. Apple took the case to court and Gizmodo editor Jason Chen had his home illegally raided.

This prototype however was sold for $200 on Craigslist. Apple had earlier traced the device to a home in Bernal Heights where the police searched and didn’t find anything. The suspect admitted to being at the bar that night but denied taking the phone.

We aren’t really sure what iPhone prototype this is. It could be the iPhone 5 expected to launch in September or the rumored 4GS. Apple, Craigslist and the San Francisco Police aren’t saying anything about it. The owner of the bar says somebody called about a missing phone a couple of times, but he hasn’t been contacted by Apple or the San Francisco Police.
